Extension of a state monument

Amsterdam | NL
2015

Located on the most picturesque street of Amsterdam Noord, this state monument was extended to create more private and communal space for family members.

To contrast the wooden façade of the original structure, the main materials employed in  the extension are glass and steel. Lowered into the ground ever so slightly, you can now overlook the sloping garden while standing in a kitchen area surrounded by grand windows.

A bespoke staircase links the two structures. Doubling as a bookcase, it also provides extra storage. The children’s rooms are located above the kitchen area, allowing for a larger and more private master bedroom in the original space.
